Application

This page explores the groundbreaking advancements in wood protection offered by Smart BioHemp™ Wood Protectant, our novel topical wood coating. This proprietary formulation represents a paradigm shift in how we approach wood protection, moving beyond toxic chemicals to a more integrated level of protection through all-natural solutions.

Initially, we engaged a well-known university that is nationally and internationally recognized in this field. During the research, they analyzed the weathering potential of wood samples coated with various concentrations of protectant solution.  Specifically, this methodology has been used during investigations of coatings and paints that aim to reduce or eliminate wood swelling and shrinking, and damage from water.
In addition to water resistance, all samples were evaluated after weathering for surface issues including flaking, chalking, cupping, and warping. There were no issues on any of these. These formulations performed favorably to the best formulations used commercially.
The key to the innovation lies in the unique component combination.
This meticulously developed solution possesses an unprecedented ability to penetrate the intricate cellular structure of wood. It effectively creates a protective polymerization of the solution components to encapsulate the wood substrate. This creates a robust barrier against environmental stressors such as moisture and UV radiation. The final finish is not only highly effective but also easily applied and environmentally friendly, aligning with the increasing consumer demand for sustainable and eco-conscious products. Smart BioHemp™ has also been certified by the USDA as a bio-preferred product.

This dynamic interplay between the coating's active components and the wood's natural structure is the foundation of its superior performance. We are confident that this innovative coating will set a new standard in wood protection, offering superior performance and environmental responsibility.

Application Instructions:

Smart BioHemp™ Wood Protectant is to be used on dry unfinished wood but can also be used on pressure treated wood treated with a water-borne preservative that has been dried after treatment or in-service.

  • For dry unfinished wood you can coat immediately.
  • For pressure treated residential lumber treated with waterborne preservatives, the wood needs to dry prior to coating with Smart BioHemp™ Wood Protectant. Make sure that the surface does not feel or look wet.
  • If you wish to coat wood that was previously coated with another product, test a small area first to determine compatibility. If the small area coated  absorbs the solution overnight and the surface is dry to the touch, then it is compatible.
  1. Be sure the surface of your project is clean and free of dust. If pressure washing is used, let the surface air dry before application.
  2. You can apply with a brush or roller depending on your project needs. We recommend brushes for most projects. Begin by applying a first coat.
  3. For the best finish, we recommend letting this first application rest and settle overnight.
  4. The following day, apply another coat of Smart BioHemp™ Wood Protectant to the surface of your project and allow to surface dry. This will result in a water-resistant surface. You can now begin to use.

Total curing in service will occur dependent on exposure conditions. Smart BioHemp™ Wood Protectant cures best in warm, well-ventilated places. The warmer and more ventilated the area, the faster it will totally cure.
